Johnson Lambert was formed in 1986 in the Washington, DC area by Larry Johnson and Debbie Lambert.  Prior to the formation of Johnson Lambert, Larry and Debbie were both affiliated with Ernst & Whinney (now EY), where they were active leaders in the firm’s insurance practice.  As they created Johnson Lambert, the founding partners’ vision was to be an alternative to the then “Big-8” firms in providing audit and tax services to the insurance industry. 

In 1987, we opened our second office in Burlington, Vermont to serve the emerging on-shore captive insurance market. Captive insurance and alternative risk has developed into an important sub-niche within our insurance industry practice.

In 1995, through an acquisition in the Washington DC area market, we added our non-profit industry niche practice. Originally this practice was focused on trade and professional associations, but has since grown to include a broad cross-section of nonprofit organizations. 

Our expertise in employee benefit plans originally developed in response to the needs of our clients in the insurance and nonprofit industries. Today, employee benefit plans are a free-standing, thriving niche of our firm.

In 2000, as part of strategic planning efforts, we streamlined our strategy, which was captured internally as our desire, “to be the dominant player in the markets we served in the Eastern time zone”.  In very rapid succession in the early and mid-2000, we opened offices in North Carolina, New Jersey (NYC area), South Carolina, and Florida. 

The 2008, financial crisis' impact on the industry created further opportunities for Johnson Lambert to expand our geographic foot print. We opened our Illinois office in 2009 and our Georgia office in 2010.

Today, Johnson Lambert is comprised of eight office locations, from where we serve a national and selectively international client base.  

Johnson Lambert embraces an entrepreneurial spirit, and has plans for continued growth in the years ahead.  In our current strategic plan, we have developed a vision that will take Johnson Lambert across the country, expanding our presence from the East Coast to the West Coast. The geographic diversity of our client base continues to expand and as a committed partner with our clients and the industries we serve, we will be there to provide the quality of service for which we are well known.  As Johnson Lambert grows and matures we will stay true to the mission and vision which has served us well for more than a quarter century.
